Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for April 11th,
2008. This report covers the period from April 5th to April 11th and will
be updated again on April 25th.
At Bold Point in East Providence, the HOARY REDPOLL was last reported on the
5th, along with 1 COMMON REDPOLL, 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and 1 FOX SPARROW.
On the 10th, 1 GOLDEN EAGLE was observed from a parking lot off Rte.1A in
Wickford.
At Sachuest NWR saltmarsh on the 5th, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, 1
SNOWY EGRET and 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS.
On the 5th at Quonochontaug, 1 COMMON (EURASIAN) TEAL, 2 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 1 BARN SWALLOW were reported.
In South Kingstown at Trustom Pond NWR, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and 2 AMERICAN
KESTRELS were found this week.
Along Weeden Lane in Jamestown there were 75 GLOSSY IBIS reported on the
10th.
In the mash along Plain Meetinghouse Road in West Greenwich, near Route 102,
2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen on the 7th, and a BROAD-WINGED HAWK was also
spotted that day in Coventry.
Another RUSTY BLACKBIRD was found at the Great Swamp Management Area in
South Kingstown on the 10th, along with 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, 6 WILSON'S SNIPE,
1
HAIRY WOODPECKER and 2 PURPLE FINCHES.
A COMMON RAVEN was heard calling along Ponaganset Road in Foster on the 7th.
Revised total species count for the year through March is 173.
