Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for January
29th, 2010. This report covers the period from January 18th to January
28th. The next update will be in about one week.

An adult IVORY GULL was found in Little Compton, at Quicksand Pond on the
23rd. It was not relocated in that area, however, another sighting of an
IVORY GULL, presumably the same bird, came from Middletown on the 27th.
This bird was found at Easton's Pond on the 27th, and again, only a one day
sighting.

Another TUFTED DUCK was a one day sighting in East Providence on the 20th.
It was seen from the bike path along the East Providence Reservoir, below
where the river empties into North Pond. On the
27th, a CACKLING GOOSE was observed on the ice to the south of the East
Providence Reservoir causeway along Route 152, and on the 17th, 1 ICELAND GULL
and 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were reported there. Also in East
Providence, at Watchemoket Cove, 2 BLACK-HEADED GULLS and at Boyden Heights
Conservation area there was a WINTER WREN.

A DOVEKIE was seen from the Block Island Ferry on the 21st, along with a
RAZORBILL.

At Trustom Pond, the male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was spotted again this past
week. Two REDHEADS were noted there on the 23rd.

A PINE SISKIN and a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET were reported visiting a feeder in
 Exeter.

In Middletown, at Easton's Beach (First Beach) , an ICELAND GULL was seen
on the 28th. Two NOTHERN SHOVELERS were seen at the farm pond on Braman's
Lane, and 8 SNOW GEESE were reported in the field across the street on the
27th. A PEREGRINE FLACON has been frequenting the area around Sachuest
Saltmarsh for the past week.

At Apponaug Cove in Warwick, an ICELAND GULL was again found this week.

RUSTY BLACKBIRDS continue to be located along Moonstone Beach Road in South
Kingstown, and an AMERICAN BITTERN was observed on the 20th at Mud Pond,
which is at the southern end of Moonstone Beach Road.

An AMERICAN BITTERN was also found at Quicksand Pond in Little Compton on
the 23rd, along with a SHORT-EARED OWL.

In Jamestown, a SNOW BUNTING was reported at Fort Getty on the 19th.

Finally, on the 24th, at corner of Route 216 & Rt. 3 in Ashaway, 5 BLACK

That's all for this week, thank you for calling and good birding!
