Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for February
14th, 2010. This report covers the period from February 7th to February
13th. The next update will be in about one week.
In Charlestown, a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was observed in Ninigret Pond
from the Grassy Point trail on the 13th, along with about 400 HOODED
MERGANSERS. The adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continues to be located here,
and
on the 13th, 1 COMMON RAVEN was spotted.
Along Card's Pond Road, near corner with Moonstone Beach Road, 1 VESPER
SPARROW was found on the 13th. At Trustom Pond on the 7th, 1 male BARROW'S
GOLDENEYE was reported, and on the 13th, sightings included: 2 REDHEADS, 2
NORTHERN PINTAIL, 36 CANVASBACKS and 2 BALD EAGLES.
A BALD EAGLE was also reported from Wakefield on the 12th.
In Tiverton, in the corn fields along Seapowet Avenue, 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR
was seen again this week, and a SNOW GOOSE was spotted along the road into
Fogland Beach.
Another SNOW GOOSE was found on the 10th, along Liberty Lane in West
Kingston.
On the 11th in Jamestown, at Beavertail Point, 20 HARLEQUIN DUCKS and 1
LONG-TAILED DUCK were reported.
Inland, at Arcadia Management Area in Exeter and West Greenwich, 1 WINTER
WREN, 3 HAIRY WOODPECKERS and 2 BROWN CREEPERS were in evidence on the 7th.
Finally, at Watchemoket Cove in East Providence, 3 BLACK-HEADED GULLS were
found this week.
