Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for February  
20th,  2010.  This report covers  the period  from February  14th to February 
20th. The next update will be in about one week.
 
An annual survey conducted every February on Block Island was held this  
year on the 15th.  Highlights included: 2 PACIFIC LOONS on Great Salt Pond,  1 
EURASIAN WIGEON, 11 DOVEKIES, 1 COMMON MURRE, 2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, 23  
LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 9 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 1 PURPLE SANDPIPER, 20 BLACK-LEGGED 
KITTIWAKE, 15 RAZORBILLS, 1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, 1 WINTER WREN, 8 AMERICAN 
 PIPITS and 1 RUSTY BLACKBIRD.
 
In Matunuck a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was observed on the 14th.
 
On the 20th, 2 BLACK-HEADED GULLS were seen at Scarborough Beach, along  
with a single AMERICAN PIPIT.  On the 14th, 1 BLACK-HEADED GULL was noted  
here.
 
At Watchemoket Cove in East Providence, 1 ICELAND GULL and 2 BLACK-HEADED  
GULLS were reported on the 14th.
 
A SHORT-EARED OWL was found in Middletown on the 15th, at Sachuest  
Saltmarsh.
 
In West Kingston on the 18th, a COMMON RAVEN was recorded.
 
A PURPLE FINCH was visited a feeder in Exeter on the 16th.
 
Three EASTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen on the lawn of the Perryville Baptist  
Church on the 19th, and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at Perryville Pond that 
 day.
 
Finally, the 2 TUNDRA SWANS continue in Coventry, on the Flat River  
Reservoir, visible from Old Flat River Road and from Allison Ave.
