Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for July 8th,  
2010.  This report covers the period  from June 18th to July 7th. The  next 
update will be in about one week.
 
In Charlestown, on the tidal flats of Ninigret Pond, 2 ROYAL TERNS and 1  
RED KNOT were observed on the 26th. On the 27th, 1 BLACK SKIMMER, 1 RED KNOT 
and  1 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were found.
 
One CASPIAN TERN and an ORCHARD ORIOLE were seen at Trustom Pond NWR in  
South Kingstown on the 3rd.
 
At The Nature Conservancy's Francis Carter Preserve in Charlestown, 1  
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was singing from atop a post on the 3rd.  Other  sightings 
included: 1 BROWN THRASHER, 1 EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, 1 BLUE-GRAY  GNATCATCHER, 
several breeding PRAIRE WARBLERS, OVENBIRDS, SCARLET TANAGERS,  INDIGO 
BUNTINGS and FIELD SPARROWS. 
 
Off Shannock Road in Charlestown, 1 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was seen on the  
1st.
 
At Sachuest Saltmarsh, (Third beach Restoration area) in Middletown, 1  
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 3 GLOSSY IBIS,,  2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS  and  1 
SHORT-BILLED DOWITHCER were reported. 
 
On the 21st, 1 COMMON GOLDENEYE was observed in the Providence River, south 
 of Bold Point.
 
Finally, reports of a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH from Little Compton and also  
from Providence this week, and a PURPLE FINCH visited a feeder in East  
Providence.
