Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for March
27th, 2011. This report covers the period from March 21st to March 26th, and
will be updated in about one week.
A male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was found in Tiverton on the 22nd, and seen
briefly on the 23rd. The bird was with a flock of RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS in
a farm field along Neck Road just north of Pond Bridge Road. A BLACK
VULTURE and 2 GREAT EGRETS were also seen in Tiverton.
On the 27th, 1 TUFTED DUCK was found behind the Boyden conservation Area at
the Squantum Club along the East Bay Bike Path in East Providence.
On Block Island, a breeding plumaged PACIFIC LOON was seen from the end of
Cooneymus Road on the southwest side of the island on the 26th. Also
RIRI
SPARROWS. On the 22nd, a PACIFIC LOON was seen in Great Salt Pond.
On the 22nd, in Foster, along Ponaganset Road, 3 COMMON RAVENS, 1 BALD
EAGLE, 2 PILEATED WOODPECKERS, and 7 PINE SISKINS. In Glocester at Durfee
Hill MA, 2 COMMON AVENS were reported on the 24th.
In Jamestown on the 26th, 7 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen in the cow pasture
at Fort Getty.
A BLACK-HEADED GULL was found in Narraganset on the 25th, along the Narrow
River estuary at the end of Narraganset Beach. At Camp Cronin, 150
LONG-TAILED DUCKS and 1 RAZORBILL were spotted on the 22nd.
At Perry Mills Pond in South Kingstown, 2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS were seen on
the 25th and 26th. Three NORTHERN SHOVELERS were found at Buttonwoods Cove
in Warwick on the 25th.
At Trustom Pond NWR this week, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE,1 CANVASBACK, 2 REDHEADS
and 1 PURPLE FINCH.
