In northeastern South Dakota, Dan Tallman observed YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS in Aberdeen (Brown County) on April 15.
Observations near Vermillion (Clay County) in southeastern South Dakota
include
PECTORAL and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, LESSER and GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE, SWAMP SPARROW, and COMMON SNIPE.
In central South Dakota, Ricky Olson reported observations in the tailrace
of Oahe
Dam (Hughes County). On April 20, Rick reported a possible PACIFIC LOON as
well as COMMON LOONS. Several observers reported on sightings in and around
Hyde WPA, north of Pierre, (Hughes County). Species included OSPREY,
MERLIN,
BURROWING OWLS, PECTORAL and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, MARBLED
GODWITS, WILLETS, and many waterfowl species, including CINAMMON, GREEN-
WINGED, and BLUE-WINGED TEAL. RED CROSSBILLS were observed in Pierre on
April 20.
In western South Dakota, Jocie Baker observed SAY'S PHOEBE as well as
several
hundred CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS in eastern Pennington County on
April 14. Todd Jensen observed GREEN-WINGED and CINAMMON TEAL at Seavy
pond outside Rapid City (Pennington County) on April 17.
WHOOPING CRANES are currently migrating through South Dakota. If you see
