Northeast Texas Bird Alert
Date: February 26, 2001
Compiler/transcriber: Peter Barnes, peter.barnes@uthct.edu=20
On Sunday, February 25, 2001, I observed a drake CINNAMON TEAL at the =
north unit of Richland Creek WMA, off Highway 287 in Freestone County. =
Other birds of interest in the north unit included 1 SNOWY EGRET, 1 =
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER and 1 adult BALD EAGLE. At the south unit off =
488, at least 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were in a large flock of Common =
Grackles. The WMA is currently closed to the public due to flooding, but =
should reopen soon if water levels go down. You can call the WMA Field =
Office at 903-389-7080 to inquire about its status.
On Thursday, February 22, Matt White reports the continuing GLAUCOUS =
GULL and the first PURPLE MARTINS of the season at Lake Tawakoni.
