The Texas Rare Bird Alert is presented as a service of Houston Audubon Society.
On the upper Texas Coast Spring migrants continue to pass through. A GREEN
VIOLET-EAR (Colibri thalassinus) has been visiting a private residence in
Wharton.
In the Rio Grande Valley TAMAULIPAS CROWS* (Corvus imparatus) are nesting in
Brownsville. The birds can be seen near the corner of Dakota and Boca Chica (Rte
4), north of the airport. A YELLOW-GREEN VIREO (Vireo flavoviridus) was found
at the South Padre Island Convention Center on Saturday, May 12. Another
YELLOW-GREEN VIREO (Vireo flavoviridus) is being seen at Sabal Palms Refuge in
Brownsville. The Rio Grande Valley hotline is up again. Please call 956-584-2731
to listen to the tape or press option 3 to report birds.
The South Coastal Plains area has a pair of MASKED DUCKS* (Nomonyx dominicus)
are being seen just north of Riviera in Kleburg County. Directions: Take Hwy 77
south of Kingsville and go east on FM Road 628. After the dog leg in the road
take a right on County Road 1090. Turn left on County Road 2300. The lake will
be on the right side of road.
