The Texas Rare Bird Alert is presented as a service of Houston Audubon Society.

On the upper Texas Coast a female alternate plumaged RED-NECKED PHALAROPE
(Phalaropus lobatus) was found in the lagoon by Pelican Island in Galveston. To
reach Pelican Island take Haborside Drive heading towards Sea Wolf Park. There
is a dirt road on the left just before you reach the park. Take this road until
it dead ends. The phalarope has been in the large lagoon on the right, staying
mostly in the western end. Be careful on this road, as it is a bit rough. Do not
proceed past the end of the road, as you risk getting stuck. The bird was not
seen this afternoon.

In the Rio Grande Valley a GREATER FLAMINGO* ( Phoenicopterus ruber) was seen
near Arroyo City in the lower Laguna Madre. The origin of this bird is unknown.
It was spotted 1.1 miles ESE of Green Island. A boat would be needed to reach
this area. TAMAULIPAS CROWS* (Corvus imparatus) are nesting in Brownsville. The
birds can be seen near the corner of Dakota and Boca Chica (Rte 4), north of
the airport. A YELLOW-GREEN VIREO (Vireo flavoviridus) was found at the South
Padre Island Convention Center on Saturday, May 12. Another YELLOW-GREEN VIREO
(Vireo flavoviridus) is being seen at Sabal Palms Refuge in Brownsville. The Rio
Grande Valley hotline is up again. Please call 956-584-2731 to listen to the
tape or press option 3 to report birds.

The South Coastal Plains the MASKED DUCKS* (Nomonyx dominicus) were not seen
this past weekend. If you do see either the male or female please update the
alert. To reach the lake where they were found take Hwy 77 south of Kingsville
and go east on FM Road 628, north of Riviera. After the dog leg in the road
take a right on County Road 1090. Turn left on County Road 2300. The lake will
be on the right side of road.
